About This Site

This site is a re-write of a site originally created in 2003 to support the Precision Club sessions I conduct in the Beginner/Intermediate Lounge on Bridgebase Online. The original site was written in something of a hurry, completely in HTML and Javascript. This complete re-write is almost completely content-managed, written in a mixture of HTML and PHP with a MySQL back-end database that holds most of the data and page content. PHP is a server-side programming language (as opposed to Javascript and HTML which are client-side languages that run on your web browser) which interrogates the MySQL database, fetches the data it requires and then writes the HTML that is passed to your web browser. The main advantage in this method is for volatile data that changes frequently (eg: the Visitors Book, Next Session page, etc) rather than for more static content (ie: the actual teaching pages). This also provides me with an easy means of updating global features such as the links on each page.

The site has been constructed using HoTMetaLPro, Dreamweaver 7 and the Enginsite php editor. The images are created using Corel Photopaint 12. The site is hosted by Supanames who provide the PHP and MySQL support.

Getting the Best from the Site

Browser

The Site should look okay in any browser, but we recommend Google Chrome for its speed, all-round reliability, and adherence to industry standards. Some features (eg: the background gradient) may not appear perfectly in some browsers (eg: Internet Explorer 9).

Text Size

This is best set to "Medium" at 100% view if your browser gives you the option.

Cookies

It's best if you have Cookies enabled, especially if you want to be able to interact fully with the site.

Javascript

The site will not work properly for you if you have Javascript disabled.
